Penny Dreadful star Josh Hartnett is considering the lead in the Hollywood remake of classic Korean melodrama A Moment To Remember (2004). If he signs on, he will take over a role made famous by local heartthrob JUNG Woo-sung and co-star with Jena Malone, who plays the role originated by SON Ye-jin.

Ben Lewin, director of The Sessions, will take the reigns while Erin Brockovich scribe has adapted the story of a young woman who falls in love with a gruff young architect only to develop early-onset dementia shortly into their nuptials. Production is expected to begin in November. Sobini Films financed the project while Scott Lambert and Sobini’s Mark Amin are attached as producers.

A major hit 12 years ago, A Moment To Remember cemented JUNG’s status as a top player in the Korean film scene and launched the careers of director John H. LEE, who recently made the Korean War hit Operation Chromite, featuring Liam Neeson, and actress SON Ye-jin, who appeared in both The Truth Beneath and The Last Princess this summer.

Previous Korean hits to get the US makeover treatment include PARK Chan-wook’s Old Boy (2003), KWAK Jae-yong’s My Sassy Girl (2001), which retained the original titles, as well as remakes of Il Mare (2000), Addicted (2002) and Into the Mirror (2003), which became The Lake House, Possessed and Mirrors, respectively.
