Earning a first place berth was CJ Entertainment’s parallel timeline romantic-thriller Time Renegades from My Sassy Girl (2001) director KWAK Jae-young. The film opened soft but nevertheless claimed first place with 336,140 viewers (USD 2.45 million) in three days and 546,738 admissions (USD 3.94 million) since its Wednesday election day debut.

Slowing just 38% in its second frame was local thriller INSANE, which added 190,589 spectators (USD 1.43 million) to its total, which is now just over 800,000 admissions (USD 5.87 million). One million should come soon enough, a strong result for the mid-size release.

Opening with just 169,809 viewers (USD 1.21 million) in third place was Hollywood sequel The Huntsmen: Winter’s War, which was about 35% down from the first installment’s debut in 2012. In five days, the film has collected 303,931 spectators (USD 2.13 million).

Still a presence on the chart in week nine was Zootopia which suffered a slight 25% decline for a 164,120 viewer (USD 1.18 million) frame. The animated flick’s total has ballooned to over 4.23 million admissions (USD 28.95 million).

Following last year’s disappointing performance for period action film Memories of the Sword, PARK Heung-sik’s new period title, the romantic drama LOVE, LIES, suffered even worse, pulling in just 133,563 spectators (USD 932,729) in fifth place during its debut, and 243,413 admissions (USD 1.67 million) since Wednesday.

The only major release this coming week is local youth drama THE LAST RIDE, which may not have enough heft to unseat the holdovers. Meanwhile, Captain America: Civil War, which doesn’t come out until next week, is already claiming 70% of the reservations chart.
