Korean Romcom LOVES AND LEASHES Debuts at 5th on Global Netflix Non-English Film Chart
Latest Park Hyunjin Film Logs 6.68 Million Viewing Hours
Love and Leashes (2022)
The romantic comedy Love and Leashes, from Like for Likes (2016) director Park Hyunjin, the first Korean film to be financed and produced by Netflix, debuted on the global streaming platform on February 11.
Starring Seohyun and Lee Junyoung, the film reached fifth place on the non-English language film chart of Netflix’s global weekly rankings for the period from February 7 to 13, during which the film was available for less than three days. The film recorded 6.68 million hours of viewing time on the platform. Among all films, Love and Leashes ranked 13th during its debut weekend.
Based on the ‘Moral Sense’ webtoon by Gyeowool, Love and Leashes stars Seohyun as a worker at a large corporation who has feelings for a colleague (Lee Junyoung) but keeps them to herself until the day she accidentally receives a parcel intended for him. The box contains a kinky dog collar intended for S&M use. He confesses his fetish to her, and soon the pair embark on a secret submissive-dominant relationship.
Girls’ Generation member Seohyun and Lee Junyoung of U-KISS both make their feature film leading debuts in the film.
Love and Leashes is the third feature from director Park, who previously made the romantic comedies Lovers of Six Years (2008), with Kim Haneul and Yoon Kyesang, and Like for Likes (2016), which featured the late Kim Joohyuk and Yoo Ahin among its ensemble cast. Prior to her directing debut, she served as a continuity editor on Im Sangsoo’s The Old Garden (2007), a film she also featured in a small role.
