JOSEE and VOICE OF SILENCE to Compete at Fribourg International Film Festival
Midnight Screenings for THE ODD FAMILY and NIGHT OF THE UNDEAD in Switzerland
Korean cinema returns to the Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF), which will stage its 35th edition this summer from July 16 to 25. A total of five Korean features have been invited to the program, among them two sets to vie to the Regard d’Or, the top prize in the main competition.
FIFF’s international competition section has hosted Korean films almost every year in recent memory, but in 2021, the section comprises two titles, out of its 12 hopefuls in total. Those are Kim Jongkwan’s Josée (2020), his remake of the Japanese cult classic Josée, the Tiger and the Fish starring Han Jimin and Nam Joohyuk, and the black comedy Voice of Silence (2020) with Yoo Ahin, the debut of director Hong Euijeong.
The Regard d’Or prize has been won four times to Korean films over the years: Jeon Sooil The Bird Who Stops in the Air (2000), Park Kiyong’s Camel(s) (2002), Lee Changdong’s Poetry (2010), and Lee Sujin’s Han Gongju (2013).
The Midnight Screenings section of Fribourg, this year, will welcome the SF-horror-comedy Night of the Undead (2020) from Shin Jungwon and Lee Minjae’s horror-comedy THE ODD FAMILY: ZOMBIE ON SALE (2019).
Also featuring in the FIFF program will be Yoon Gaeun’s sophomore indie drama The House of Us (2019), which will be screened in the Planète Cinéma section.
