Jason KIM and
PARK Seo-jun, the director and star combo behind last year’s smash youth cop hit
Midnight Runners, are currently in production on the martial arts supernatural action-thriller
The Divine Fury. Though filming is still underway, distributor
Lotte Entertainment has reportedly already pre-sold the project to 18 countries.
Lotte presented a 40-second promo clip at the recent American Film Market in Santa Monica, CA, which helped them secure buyers across Asia in Hong Kong, Macao, Cambodia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Laos, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and Thailand, as well as in European markets such as Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Liechtenstein and Switzerland.
PARK leads the cast of
The Divine Fury as a champion mixed martial arts fighter who recently lost his father and teams up with a priest (played by veteran star
AHN Sung-ki) to fight an evil power. The villain in the project is played by
WOO Do-hwan, who previously had a small role in
Operation Chromite (2016) before taking on a bigger role in the action-thriller
Master (2016).
Released in August, KIM’s
Midnight Runners, which featured PARK and
KANG Ha-neul as police academy recruits who witness a woman being kidnapped and try to solve the case during one long night, was the sleeper hit of summer 2017, welcoming over 5.6 million viewers (USD 39.24 million). KIM had previously made two small independent features, including 2013’s
Koala.
Once it completes filming and goes through post-production, The Divine Fury will find its way into theaters at some point in 2019.
