Cinema Guild to Release Film Starring Late KIM Joo-hyuk on June 5
Hong Sangsoo’s 18th film Yourself and Yours, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2016, has finally found a US distributor. The New York-based outfit Cinema Guild will launch the film digitally and on home video on June 5. The film stars the late KIM Joo-hyuk and LEE Yoo-young.
Cinema Guild has previously handled seven of Hong’s titles, including On the Beach at Night Alone (2017) and Hotel by the River (2019), as well as the yet-to-be-release The Woman Who Ran (2019), which they acquired at the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year, where it netted Hong the Silver Bear Prize for Best Director.
The film stars KIM Joo-hyuk as painter Youngsoo, who hears that his girlfriend Minjung (LEE Yoo-young) has been drinking and fighting with another man. Following an argument, the pair split, only for Youngsoo to go searching for her the next day.
Yourself and Yours would be one of KIM’s last roles as the beloved actor passed away in a car accident on October 30, 2017. His death was national news and was a massive shock for the industry. His last screen role was in LEE Hae-young’s hit action-thriller Believer (2018).
Following its Toronto bow, Yourself and Yours went on to screen at the San Sebastian International Film Festival, where it earned the Silver Shell for Best Director, as well as dozens of other international events.
