THE OUTLAWS Director’s Follow-up Begins International Run
Hot on the heels of its domestic theatrical debut, the election crime drama Long Live the King has been sold for distribution in seven foreign territories and is currently screening in the United States. Starring KIM Rae-won, the film is the sophomore work of THE OUTLAWS (2017) director KANG Yun-sung.
Partly owing to the success of director KANG’s previous film and KIM’s star power, the film will soon be released across Asia, in Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Japan, Vietnam and Brunei. Long Live the King had its domestic premier on June 19 and its American debut on June 20.
KIM Rae-won, last seen in the thriller The Prison (2017) and RV: Resurrected Victims (2017), plays Jang Se-chool, a small gang boss in the Mokpo harbor town who is intrigued by So-hyun, played by WON Jin-ah of Money, a lawyer at a forced eviction protest site who stands up to him. Se-chool decides to reform his ways but after saving someone on a bus and becoming an overnight hero, he soon finds himself thrust into a political race. JIN Seon-kyu and CHOI Gwi-hwa (both seen in THE OUTLAWS) co-star.
Director KANG’s debut THE OUTLAWS was a massive hit at home, drawing over seven million viewers during the Chusoek holiday season of 2017. His latest opened on June 19 in third place on the charts and has to date attracted over 800,000 viewers (USD 5.97 million).
