KANG Hyoung-chul’s hotly anticipated fourth film
Swing Kids, which is one of three major local releases timed for the end-of-year season, has been picked up for distribution in 23 foreign countries ahead of its domestic release date.
Following the film’s Korean opening on December 19 (though it is holding limited preview screenings this coming weekend),
Swing Kids will open in North America on December 21, where it is being distributed by Well Go USA. It will then open in Australia and New Zealand on January 10. Other territories that will welcome the Korean War musical drama in the near future include Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao, Singapore, Japan, Indonesia and Malaysia.
Set in 1951 during the Korean War,
Swing Kids features K-pop superstar
DOH Kyung-soo (aka
D.O. of EXO) as a North Korean soldier at a prisoner-of-war camp on Geoje Island, at the southern tip of the Korean peninsula, who joins a tap-dancing troupe led by a Broadway dancer serving in the military. Jared GRIMES features as the American solider, while PARK Hye-soo,
OH Jung-se and newcomer KIM Min-ho play other members in the troupe.
