Mystery-Horror Marks Commercial Directing Debut for KIM Jin-won

Performers SEO Yea-ji and JIN Seon-kyu are set to join forces in the upcoming mystery-horror Blackout. From director KIM Jin-won, helming a commercial feature for the first time, the project is set to go before cameras in August of this year.

SEO will play Mi-jung, an aspiring director who is searching for a film that was rumored to have been shot by a ghost. At the same time, she meets Tae-hyun, a working film director.

SEO’s major credits include the indie dramas Another Way (2017) and Stay with Me (2017), while she has also appeared in smaller roles in such commercial fare as The Throne (2015) and Seondal: The Man who Sells the River (2016).

A longtime character actor, after first appearing in KIM Jee-woon’s The Good, The Bad, And The Weird (2008), JIN shot to fame last year when he impressed critics and viewers alike for his memorable turn as the violent sidekick of YOON Kye-sang’s Chinese-Korean gangster in the runaway hit THE OUTLAWS (2017). The part earned him the Best Supporting Actor prize from the Blue Dragon Film Awards. Since THE OUTLAWS he has appeared in The Swindlers (2017) and drama Herstory, while he will be seen again soon in the thriller Dark Figure of Crime.

Blackout will be the first commercial feature production of director KIM Jin-won, who previously made the indie film The Butcher in 2007 as well as the short films Zombie (1999) and The Black Line (2009). In addition, Kim also worked in the directing department for the action drama Spare (2008).
