The 37th edition of the Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) recently wound to a close on June 26th and among its prize winners was Sniper’s Observation Method by KIM Yun-ha, which picked up the event’s Best Film prize in the Short Film Competition. MIFF’s top prize, the Golden George, was taken by Ivaylo Hristov’sBulgarian feature Losers.

KIM’s black comedy follows a renowned sniper who falls into a dilemma when he tracks down his latest target, only to discover that this young man is also his client and is actually looking to take his own life. Sniper’s Observation Method also screened earlier this year at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF). The short marks KIM’s debut as a filmmaker.

Also screening in this year’s Short Film Competition at MIFF from Korea was KIM Youn-sik’s The Story of Snow. Meanwhile, JIN Mo-young’s smash hit documentary feature My Love, Don’t Cross that River was also featured in the Moscow lineup this year. The last major Korean prize winner in Moscow was JUNG Young-heon’s indie drama Lebanon Emotion, which scored the Silver George for Best Director in 2013.
