MOEBIUS Leads Finecut Slate
Following the breakout success of
KIM Ki-duk’s
Pieta following its Golden Lion win at last year’s Venice International Film Festival, the indie auteur’s latest work is proving a strong seller for distributor
Finecut.
Moebius, which stars former KIM stalwart
CHO Jae-hyun (
Bad Guy,
Address Unknown) and young star
SEO Young-joo (fresh off the hit indie
Juvenile Offender), is said to be KIM’s most controversial film to date. In the drama a father castrates himself to atone for the pain he has caused his family, but this only leads to worse events.
KIM’s latest, which has yet to screen, sold to MFA+ Film Distribution for German-speaking territories, Movies Inspired took the rights for Italian-speaking countries, Cinema Prestige (former Soviet Block minus Baltic States), Ama Films (Greece and Cyprus) and Bir Film (Turkey).
Also score additional sales for Finecut were the popular titles
New World,
Nobody’s Daughter Haewon and
Pieta. The gangster saga
New World sealed deals in with Aya Pro for Japan, Borsalino for Latin American and IRIB for Iran;
HONG Sangsoo’s latest
Nobody’s Daughter Haewon, which premiered during this year’s Berlinale, went to Bitters End in Japan while Studiocanal took the rights for the UK and Ireland; and
Pieta added Madman (Australia and New Zealand) and Studiocanal (UK and Ireland) to its long list of sales.
