Born in 1973, Kim Geunsoon’s first contact with acting came in middle school, when her Korean language teacher, who was also a stage director, decided to put on <Little Women> during their classes and gave Kim the role of Margaret March. Having enjoyed that experience, she joined a theater group for the rest of her middle school and then in high school too. After graduation, she performed for a while with a local troupe in her hometown of Jinju, before moving to Seoul where she worked with Hyundae Theatre. Later, she joined a mime troupe. One of her only film appearances was in Park Chanwook’s <Sympathy for Lady Vengeance>, playing one of the inmates. After she got married, she decided to take a break in order to focus on her family. Around a decade later, as her children were then old enough, she considered resuming her career and it was in film that she found work, mostly in short movies. Having suffered in her childhood from having an old-fashioned name, for a while she preferred to use the stage name of Kim Seonju. It was under that name that she was credited for small roles in <Way Back Home> (2013) and <The Attorney> (2013). As she started to appreciate using her real name, she has since been known under Kim Geumsoon. Following bit roles in <SVAHA : THE SIXTH FINGER> (2018) and <KIM JI-YOUNG, BORN 1982> (2019), she became very busy starting in 2020, as she appeared in a large number of short movies. 2022 marked the beginning of a new chapter in her career, as she played a child trafficker in Kore-eda Hirokazu <Broker> and landed supporting roles in the satirical drama series <Mr. Kang> (2022), the detective comedy series <Bad Prosecutor> (2022) and the Disney+ series <Casino>. Initially cast as the wife of the lead character in the indie drama film <Star of Ulsan> (2022), she suddenly found herself playing the lead character, a shipyard welder, after the script was reworked and the roles gender-swapped. Her luck didn’t stop there, as this performance was recognized with a Best Actor award at the Busan International Film Festival. Just a few days later, it was for another film, <Jeong-sun> (2020), that she received Best Actress at the Rome International Film Festival. Next for her was
