Born in 1987, Lee Jooyoung, studied modelling at Dongduk Women’s University. She was still in her sophomore year when she started working as a professional model, but the feeling of emptiness she felt after each gig made her quit soon after. Instead of having to constantly worry about looking her best for the cameras, she found much more appealing the idea of acting on a movie set. She made a strong impression early on by starring in the short movie <Bargain> (2015) from Lee Chunghyun, a role she landed after passing an audition for it. The film was presented in competition at the Busan International Film Festival in 2016 and went on to win Best Film at the Mise-en-scene Short Film Festival, thus bringing her to the notice of many directors. Among themdirector Lee Haeyoung decided to change the gender of one of the characters, a hearing-impaired drug producer, in the screenplay for <Believer> (2017) so that it would accommodate her casting, which made for a female character rarely seen, if ever, in a Korean film. Despite the fact she didn’t have to deliver a single line, she managed to capture the attention of many a viewer with her expressivity. After appearing in the popular family drama <Keys to the Heart> (2017) and the indie sensation <Miss Baek> (2017), which benefited from positive hear-of-mouth, Lee Jooyoung gained wider recognition playing in the cop series <Live> (2018), one of the highest rated cable TV shows. In 2021, she was back in the phishing thriller <On the Line> (2021), playing a hacker.
