Born in 1977, Heo Sungtae majored in Russian and had long been in charge of selling TVs in the Russian market, before he joined the planning and coordination department of a shipbuilding company. In 2011, he started his acting career at the age of 34 after entering the TV talent show <Miraculous Audition>. Just a decade later, Heo has accumulated a large number of credits in films and TV series, mostly in bit parts and supporting roles, including Lee Wonsuk’s period fashion drama <The Royal Tailor> (2014). Yet, he became well-known to the general public through a particular scene in Kim Jeewoon’s <The Age of Shadows> in which he gets unceremoniously slapped in the face by Song Kangho. Before long, people started to recognize him in the 2017’s Chuseok holidays hit <THE OUTLAWS> (2017) and the critically acclaimed royal court drama <The Fortress> (2017). After an appearance in the period zombie flick <Rampant> (2018), Heo interpreted a high-ranked officer of the Japanese police tracking down a secret society attempting to compile a Korean dictionary in the historical drama <MAL•MO•E: The Secret Mission> (2018). He was brought to international fame in 2021 when he played a crook taking part in the death game in the hit Netflix series <Squid Game>.
