After several other minor parts on television, she was selected from among 1,300 candidates to play the young version of KIM Min-hee’s Hideko in <The Handmaiden> (2016), PARK Chan-wook’s eagerly anticipated film adaptation of Sarah WATERS’ novel ‘Fingersmith’. The director had previously planned to hire three child actors to portray Hideko at different ages, but was so impressed by JO’s acting skills that he eventually had her play the other young versions of the character.
