CHO Hyun-chul, born 1986, studied filmmaking at the Korea National University of Arts. Having played in several of the short films he directed around that time, he was cast in several popular successes of the last decade, including the nostalgic drama <Architecture 101> (2012), the thriller <Master> (2016) and the Korean independence period drama <MAL·MO·E: The Secret Mission> (2018). Although CHO still takes the time to direct short films once in a while, he is best known for his performance as the male lead in IM Dae-hwan’s award-winning Jeonju Cinema Project <The First Lap> (2017). He starred in another indie feature to wide acclaim in 2019, earning the award for Korean Fantastic Best Actor at the Bucheon Fantastic Film Festival for <Film Adventure> (2019). CHO didn’t completely leave behind his ambitions as a storyteller, though, and notably provided the script for the sport drama <My Punch-Drunk Boxer> (2019).
