LEE-KIL Bora is a writer and filmmaker who believes that being born to and raised by her deaf parents have given her the best gift of storytelling. Recognizing the limits of South Korea’s education system that solely focuses on college placement tests, Bora dropped out of school at the age of sixteen, and traveled to South East Asia for eight-month-long volunteer work. The experience of the trip inspired her first documentary, <Road-Schooler> (2008) that also resulted in a book and an essay, 『Road is School 』(2009) and 『Road-Schooler』(2009). Following this, she studied documentary making in the School of Film, TV, and Multimedia at the Korea National University of Arts since 2009. Bora’s first feature documentary, <Glittering Hands> (2014) is based on the stories told by her and her younger brother, who both grew up moving back and forth between two worlds – one in silence and the other of sounds. Her second feature, <A War of Memories> (2018) is premiered in 2018 Busan International Film Festival.Less
