KIM Yong-wan studied mass communication at Hanyang University but quickly found a stronger interest in the collaborative spirit inherent in filmmaking once he joined the school’s movie club. While directing several short movies like <Unskilled Refuse> (2005), winner of the Daegu Short Film Festival’s competition, he took part in the filming of many indie movies like <Lovers of 6 Years> (2007) and <Handphone> (2008) and served as first assistant director on a segment of film omnibus <Lovers> (2008). Action blockbuster <Quick> (2011) marked his first foray into commercial films as he took on the position of assistant director. In 2014, his short <Daytime Moon> (2013) won several awards at the Jeongdongjin Independent Film Festival and the Great Short Film Festival. Following his directing of web series <Love Cells> (2014) and <We Broke Up> (2015), he released in 2018 his feature debut <Champion> (2017), led by Don LEE (a.k.a. MA Dong-seok) in the role of an arm wrestler trying to return to his glory days.
