Lee Seungjun, born in 1978, graduated from Honam University in drama and film in 1997. First credited as a production coordinator on <April Snow> (2005), it followed this up with work as an assistant director on <Haeundae>, and as first assistant director on <No Doubt> (2010) and <Quick> (2011). The action comedy <The Spy: Undercover Operation> (2012), Lee’s directing debut, defied the odds to top the box office upon its release in September 2013 despite it being one of the busiest seasons with strong competition. In that film, Lee made a sensation with some of the action scenes he worked on with martial arts director Choi Donghun, whom he had already worked with on <Quick>. Those included high-altitude hanging stunts on a hotel balcony in Thailand and acrobatics on a helicopter, which had never been seen before in Korean film.
A decade later, he released the crime thriller <Limit>, which is notable for its main cast composed by a majority of women performers, in a genre typically dominated by men in Korea cinema.
