Born JUNG Sol-mi in 1986, JUNG Eun-chae found her daily life monotonous at the British countryside boarding school she had been sent to in 1999, and so movies, TV series and theatre represented her sole sources of enjoyment. After entering the Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design in London, the idea of being an actress grew in her and eventually decided to pack her suitcases and go back to Korea to give it a try, encouraged by her brother who worked at a film production company. After passing an audition, she made her debut in the science-fiction action thriller <Haunters> in 2010, starring alongside GANG Dong-won. Since there was already an actress named (PARK) Sol-mi in the show-business, JUNG picked her current stage name – actually the given name her father would have given had he had a second son. However, by the time the film hit theaters, JUNG had already made her name as a model, featuring in a large number of TV commercials. JUNG made a huge splash with her first major part, as the lead in HONG Sang-soo’s <Nobody’s Daughter Haewon>, which competed at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2013. The part won her much acclaim, which culminated in a number of Best New Actress nominations at end-of-year industry awards. She immediately followed it up with another role in HONG’s next title, <Hill of Freedom> (2013), before she joined the ensemble cast of the big-budget period film <The Fatal Encounter> (2014). In 2016, she joined JUNG Yu-mi, HAN Ye-ri and LIM Soo-jung in the indie minimalist drama <The Table> and was cast in the crime thriller <The King>. Outside of cameo appearances in <Ode to the Goose> (2018) and <Shooting Girls> (2019), her most recent major roles were in the historical epic <The Great Battle> (2018) and the occult horror series <The Guest> (2018). She also had her own radio program on MBC between 2018 and 2019, in which she would introduce movie soundtracks.
