Starting with his 2001 short film HONG Gil-dong, director AHN Sang-hoon has received numerous awards in various film festivals. In 2004, he won prestigious awards for Pass Over at the Busan Asian Short Film Festival and the Korea Visual Arts Festival. AHN went on to take part in the directing team of ING and built a strong foundation in directing. He made a memorable feature film debut in 2006 with ARANG and received much praise for presenting a strong story in the horror genre, and maintaining the thriller, suspense, and tension elements throughout. Five years later, he succeeded again with the thriller <Blind>, which featured KANG Ha-neul as a blind woman helping in an investigation. The film was a box office hit and a Best Script and Actress award winner at the Grand Bell Film Awards. AHN switched gears with the erotic period drama <Empire of Lust> in early 2015, which featured SHIN Ha-kyun and JANG Hyuk. Later in 2015, AHN returned to his most popular property <Blind>, remaking it for the Chinese film market as <The Witness>. Starring YANG Mi and LU Han, the film was a modest success on the mainland.
