Born in 1962, Park Heung-sik first followed a Bachelor’s program in German Language and Literature and went on with a Master’s degree with a double major in German Language and Theater Studies at the Free University of Berlin. First noticed when his short <A Day> (1999) won the Grand Prize in the short competition of the Torino International Film Festival, he made his feature film debut in <The Twins> (2004), followed soon after by a second title, <The Railroad> (2006). Eight years later, he returned with the romantic drama <Twenty Again> (2015), with Kim Seung-woo and Lee Tae-ran. Shot for the most part on location in Italy, even partly filming during the Torino International Film Festival, the film debuted at the Busan International Film Festival. After venturing into virtual reality filmmaking with <A Memory of the Wind> (2018), Park took on a new challenge with the historical drama film <A Birth> (2022), which follows the journey of a 19th-century young man on his path to become Korea’s first priest.
