He notably served as Computer Graphic Director on <Wonderful Days> (2003), a milestone in Korean 3D animation, and as VFX Supervisor for <Chaw> (2008), which featured a creature entirely created in CGI. In 2009, he co-founded another studio, Locus, this one specialized in 2D and 3D animation. Following a sting as executive VFX supervisor for horror film <The Cat> (2011), he oversaw the animation for <Leafie, a Hen into the Wild> (2011), one of the most successful Korean animated films of all time. He made his debut as a director with the animation long feature <Red Shoes and the 7 Dwarfs> (2019). The film is based on a scenario HONG had written a decade before and that won a screenplay competition held by the Korea Creative Content Agency in 2010.
