Born in 1969, CHO Sung-kyu (aka David CHO), was an undergraduate in the Department of History and graduate in the Department of Mass Communication at Yonsei University. He published the film magazine “Nega” in 1997 and is the owner and president of Sponge Entertainment, a film company he founded in 2002. As head of Sponge Entertainment he has produced and invested in numerous films such as <Rough Cut> (2008), <My Dear Enemy> (2008), <Million> (2009), <Breathless> (2009), <Like You Know It All> (2009), <Actresses> (2009) and <HaHaHa> (2009). CHO began his career in directing with the 2010 drama <Second Half>. His next work was the romcom <The Heaven is Only Open to the Single!>, which was released in 2012. Later that year, he presented the drama <The Winter of the Year Was Warm> (2012), starring KIM Tae-woo and YE Ji-won, which screened at the Busan, Shanghai, and Taipei Film Festivals. 2014 brought the indie drama <Santa Barbara> and the following year he revealed <Planck Constant>. Ever prolific, CHO finished out 2015 with an additional two films. First was <Life Is But an Empty Dream>, which screened at the Jecheon International Music and Film Festival, which was followed by <Two Rooms, Two Nights> at the Busan International Film Festival.
