CHO Geun-hyun is an expressionist who drew attention with his brilliant sense of color, and is also known for his use of classical materials in modern stories and use of modern props in classical backgrounds in his pursuit of creation with complete historical evidentiality. In <Go Go 70>(2008), he perfectly recreated a 1970s-style go go club and portrayed youths in a depressing era via flash night lighting and stage arts. In <The Accidental Gangster> and the <Mistaken Courtesan>, he used Andre KIM design dresses for Chosun Dynasty characters. He rose to stardom with his art design that gave a haunted house the sensitivity of a little girl in <A Tale of Two Sisters> (2003), and boasted sophisticated Asian sense of color through an extreme contrast of light and darkness in <Forbidden Quest>(2006) and <Duelist>(2005).
His recent art production works include <Two Woman>(2010) and <Cafe Noir>(2010). Following a few more production design credits on major works, CHO switched gears to directing, helming the successful and controversial webcomic adaptation 26 Years. The crowd-funded film was a surprise hit late in 2012. CHO next film was the indie drama Late Spring, the film premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.Less
