JUN Ji-hyun rose to stardom portraying an unpretentious young woman in <My Sassy Girl>. The popularity of <My Sassy Girl> goes beyond Korea to the rest of Asia and she emerged as an icon for Asian women in the 21st century. As <Il Mare>, which preceded <My Sassy Girl>, attracted global attention, albeit belatedly, it was reproduced by Hollywood as <The Lake House>. The movie remake gave her a beachhead to Hollywood. Most of her movie characters are no more than a variation of the character she played in <My Sassy Girl>. Her roles in <Windstruck> and <Daisy> both have much in common with that of <My Sassy Girl>. After years of preparations for overseas debut, she played a 16-year-old vampire girl in a global film project, <Blood: The Last Vampire> in 2009 and co-starred with Hugh Jackman in <Snow Flower and The Secret Fan> directed by a [Wayne Wang] known for an independent film <Smoke>. JUN made a major comeback to Korean features when she starred in the blockbuster hit <The Thieves> in the summer of 2012. She struck gold once again as part of the cast for RYOO Seung-wan’s spy thriller <The Berlin File>, a major Lunar New Year hit in 2013. JUN scored a big hit on TV with <My Love from the Star> before maintaining her string of film blockbusters when she teamed up with CHOI Dong-hoon and LEE Jung-jae once more for the Colonial Era action-thriller <Assassination> in the summer of 2015.
