Having majored in printmaking from Hongik University, LEE Hoo-kyoung entered the film industry quite naturally as he has always enjoyed reading movie magazines since he was a child. He debuted in 2003 as part of the set designers of BONG Joon-ho’s <Memories of Murder> and PARK Chan-wook’s <Oldboy>, and became production designer in 2006 with crime action drama <Sunflower> (2006). He started making a name for himself thanks to his fruitful collaboration with NA Hong-jin, as he was in charge of the art direction of <The Yellow Sea> (2010) and <The Yellow Sea> (2016). He was noted for his work on disaster drama <Tunnel> (2016), but it is his reconstitution of the ill-famous Hashima Island in <The Battleship Island> (2017) that earned him several accolades, including the Technical Achievement Award from the Korean Association of Film Critics and Best Art Direction from the Blue Dragon Film Awards.
