Born in 1977, LEE Seung-yeon studied acting at Seoul Institute of the Arts before deputing in KANG Kyung-hoon’s short <Summer in 1945> (2003). Having appeared in celebrated indie titles such as LEE Yoon-ki’s <My Dear Enemy> (2008) and the festival favorite <Breathless> (2008) from YANG Ik-june, she was first cast in a lead role by JEON Soo-il in his melancholic drama <Pink> (2011) and later played against then up-and-coming star Don LEE (aka MA Dong-seok) in <Norigae> (2012). After she co-starred PARK Jung-bum in acclaimed sophomore feature <Alive> (2014), she joined the casting of the crowd-funded historical drama <Snowy Road> (2015), about Japanese Army’s “comfort women”. She was later seen in KIM Jong-kwan’s <Worst Woman> (2016) and reunited with LEE Yoon-ki for <Oneday> (2017). LEE was brought to wider notice and acclaim in 2018 when she played the mother of the main protagonist in the indie sensation <House of Hummingbird> (2018) which received dozens of awards from festivals around the world including the Grand Prize of the Generation 14plus section at the Berlin International Film Festival. Later that year, she also jumped to television with a role in the satire drama series <Sky Castle> which became a cultural phenomenon. In 2019, LEE headlined PARK’s follow-up feature project, <Height of the Wave> (2019), which started out as a drama special on cable network tvN before spurring a theatrical version that went on to win the Special Jury Prize at the Locarno Film Festival.
