Born in 1944, Oh Youngsoo made his debut on live stage when he joined Theater Square in 1963 and later worked with Theater Jayu. It was in 1981 that he first appeared in television, playing a military prosecutor in an episode of the historical drama series <The First Republic> (1981-1982), and the following year he moved to film with a role in <The Chrysanthemum and The Clown> (1982). He later joined the National Theater Company of Korea in 1987. Starting in the late 1990s, he was often cast as a Buddhist monk, and it was in such a role that he was first noticed by international audiences in Kim Kiduk’s classic <Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter And Spring> (2003). Oh was brought to international stardom thanks to the sensational success of the Netflix original series <Squid Game> in 2021, and he set a historical first by winning the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Series.
