Born in 1976, YEOM Hye-ran discovered theater when she joined the drama club of her college when she was studying Korean literature. After a stint at a publishing company, she took in 1999 a part-time job in Daehangno, a neighborhood of Seoul widely recognized as the heart of the Korean theatrical industry, and came upon an ad from Yeon Woo Theatre looking for new recruits to which she applied. She was eventually accepted, and made her official debut on stage the following year performing an original play named <Best Teacher>. Over the years, she became particularly close to fellow actor NA Moon-hee and the two regularly shared the stage. YEOM moved to the big screen in 2003 with a bit part in BONG Joon-ho’s unanimously acclaimed <Memories Of Murder> (2003). This was followed by a series of occasional minor roles in films such as LEE Chang-dong’s <Secret Sunshine> (2007) and SHIM Sung-bo’s <Haemoo> (2014). She garnered a lot of attention in 2016 playing the close friend of a grandma with a traumatic past in popular comedy <I Can Speak> (2017). YEOM has recently become a more frequent presence on the silver screen with support roles in historical financial thriller <Default> (2018), courtroom drama <Innocent Witness> (2018), KIM Yun-seok’s directing debut <Another Child> (2018) and buddy cop comedy <Miss & Mrs. Cops> (2018).
