Since 1995, YANG has worked as a radio host in Japan. Also she has made TV news programs and TV documentaries about Japan, Thailand, Bangladesh, China and other Asian countries. Her first film Dear Pyongyang (2005) received NETPAC Award in Berlin Film Festival 2006, Special Jury Prize in Sundance Film Festival 2006. She published essays Dear Pyongyang in 2006 and My Brother Died in North Korea in 2009. Following the same themes, she followed those up with Our Homeland in 2012, a Japanese-Korean co-production that featured YANG Ik-june. The film featured a cancer patient from North Korea who is permitted to visit his family in Tokyo for medical treatment.
