BAEK Ji-seon studied business in the United States, but took a sudden interest for cinema after some of her friends asked her for help to spread their short films to festivals and TV stations. This led her to change her career plans and try her luck in Korea, but she soon realized that she didn’t have the right profile or the right connections to easily get a job in the film industry and would have to fight her way. Her good command of English enabled her to join in 2004 the international distribution department of Studio 2.0. Quickly thereafter, she supervised the promotion of <You Are My Sunshine> (2005) as part of Bom Film Productions. She eventually made her first foray into production in 2006, when she was named head of planning at Zip Cinema. There, she worked on what would become the true-life crime thriller <Voice of a Murderer> (2006), the fantasy historical action <Woochi> (2009), and the anti-romcom <All About My Wife> (2012). She was later offered by OPUS Pictures CEO LEE Tae-hun the chance to co-produce BONG Joon-ho’s most famous work <SNOWPIERCER> (2013), since her English skills would assuredly come in handy to oversee all business and legal aspects of this international co-production. Since then, she has remained quite successful in the production business, having notably produced the supernatural mystery thriller <The Priests> (2015), which sold 5.4 million tickets, as well as the crime action thriller <Master> (2016), which performed even better with 7.1 million admissions.
