Born in 1971, Park Yongwoo entered the film and theater department of Chung-Ang University in 1991, and in 1993 he made his first screen appearance in the TV series <Professor Oh’s Family>. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts, he passed the acting auditions held by national broadcaster MBC in 1995 and immediately joined the extensive cast of the historical political drama <The Fourth Republic>. His first films roles, a man caught in a dispute between his mother and his wife in <The Hole> (1997) and a secret agent in the action blockbuster <Swiri> (1999) didn’t go unnoticed. After a long series of supporting roles, he drew attention when he played the real-life General Gyeong Daeseung who ruled over the Goryeo Kingdom, one of the lead roles in the historical series <The Age of Warrior> (2003-2004), soon followed by a scene-stealing performance in the historical thriller <Blood Rain> (2004). He received as a result a bevy of nominations from Korean award bodies and eventually won at two of them, the Chunsa Film Art Awards and the Korean Film Awards. Another important step was reached the following year when was offered the male lead role in the hit romcom <My Scary Girl> (2006), in which a man discovers that his new girlfriend might be a serial killer. In the following years, Park was the leading actor in a large number of films, mostly playing detectives like in <The World Of Silence> (2006), <Beautiful Sunday> (2007) and <Children…> (2011). Park also continued to appear on television, starring notable in the historical medical series <Jejungwon> in 2010, the romantic series <My Lover, Madame Butterfly> in 2012 and the medical drama <Priest> in 2018. While his big screen activities in the 2010s were limited to a few indie films such as <Late Spring> (2014) and <UNFORGETTABLE> (2015), he made a brilliant comeback in 2020 as he filmed the fantasy thriller <Spiritwalker> (2020) and was also cast in Park Chanwook’s next film project, <Decision to Leave>.Less
