Born in 1980, Roh Deok had already made a few short films by herself before she found herself working as a script supervisor on the cult film <Save the Green Planet> (2003). After she graduated from the Seoul Institute of the Arts in Film, she first made the short film <The Secret within Her Mask> in 2005. Her feature debut followed in 2013, when she released the romantic film <Very Ordinary Couple>. The film earned plaudits for its unique and outspoken style, as well as the Best Feature Award in the Shanghai International Film Festival’s Asian Film Competition. Next for Roh was the journalistic thriller <The Exclusive: Beat the Devil's Tattoo>, a journalism investigation thriller that screened at the Udine Far East Film Festival in 2016. She then moved to television in 2020 when she participated in the science-fiction anthology series <SF8>, for which she directed the episode called <Manxin>, about a fortune telling service powered by artificial intelligence. Roh continued to explore that genre with her next project, the 10-part Netflix original series <Glitch>, which premiered on the service in 2022.
