Born in 1970, KIM Jong-hyun majored in film at Chung-Ang University before starting his career as an assistant director on <The Soul Guardians> (1998). Having honed his skills while working on <Road Movie> (2002) as first assistant director, he made his directorial debut two years later with the sports drama <Mr. Gam’s Victory> (2004), based on the real life of an amateur baseball pitcher who ended up joining a professional team of the Korean league, albeit as a “mop up man” used only when the game is already lost. After directing AHN Sung-ki in his buddy cop movie <My New Partner> (2007), he moved to television and helmed in 2011 <Killer Girl K>, a three-part thriller film. He eventually returned to the big screen in 2016 with <RUN OFF> (2016), the follow-up to the hit sports comedy <Take Off> (2009), in which a group of misfits from all walks of life try to form the first woman’s ice hockey team to represent Korea at the Winter Asian Games.
