KIM Eui-suk is part of the first class of students to graduate from [Korean Academy of Film Arts], a class that produced many directors who led the Korean movie industry in the 1990s. He made his debut to much fanfare with <The Marriage Life>(1991), considered a milestone for Korea’s commercial movies of the 1990s. The movie provided a catalyst for the transition of Korean cinemas from director-controlled to producer-driven. Its commercial success, however, owes both to the tone set by its producer but also KIM Eui-suk’s fresh sensibility and skilled directing that belied his novice status. The movie also created a prototype of romantic comedies that appealed to young people of Korea. KIM also directed <The Woman and The Man>(1993), <Bukkyeong Banjeom>(1999), <Sword in the Moon>(2003), and so on.
