In 1997, he quit the company and started a master's degree in directing at the Beijing Film Academy. Having gained experience working on <Bichunmoo> (2000) as a first assistant director, he made his directing debut in 2006 with the family comedy <Barefoot Ki-Bong> (2006), which proved a commercial hit with 2.3 million tickets sold.
