THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS Woos Diversity Chart
A new Hollywood tentpole entered the marketplace and further lifted the American market share to 86% as Korean titles were left in the dust. 1.69 million sales were recorded over the frame.
Opening well in first place was big-budget monster title Kong: Skull Island with 823,000 viewers (USD 6.16 million) and 1.01 million spectators (USD 7.46 million) since its Wednesday bow. A highly competitive marketplace will mean it won’t hold on to its title for long but a further milestone is certainly possible if viewers start talking about the film.
Slipping a reasonable 37% in its second session, the final Wolverine film Logan added 400,000 entries (USD 3.06 million) during the weekend to bring its total to a sturdy 1.77 million tickets (USD 13.22 million). Strong reviews and word of mouth may still help it further.
Week two for Korean thriller
Bluebeard was less impressive after the title saw its take slashed by 73% down to 115,000 viewers (USD 842,000) which gives the film 1.14 million admissions (USD 8.21 million) in 12 days.
Dipping 65% in its third week was
Split, which added 64,000 spectators (USD 475,000) to give it a strong 1.65 million entries (USD 11.66 million) to date. Just behind to round out the top five was local court drama
New Trial with 62,000 new viewers (USD 445,000) and an impressive 2.38 million viewers (USD 16.53 million) in total.
Romance title The Light Between Oceans topped the diversity chart, welcoming 28,000 viewers (USD 199,000) over the weekend in seventh on the overall chart and 38,000 moviegoers (USD 265,000) since its Wednesday debut.
Looking to open comfortably in first place in the coming weekend is Disney’s live action
Beauty and the Beast update. The local industry will also premiere the action-comedy
PART-TIME SPY while critically acclaimed German comedy
Toni Erdman should do well in limited release.
