The Daejong Film Awards, whose operations had been suspended for two years following the bankruptcy of the Federation of Korean Movie Workers’ Unions, is set to return to normal after securing a new organizer.

On the 12th, the Korea Film Artists Association (Chairman Kim Dae-geun) announced that it has officially acquired the service mark (trademark rights) that grants the authority to operate the Daejong Film Awards.

A representative from the Korea Film Artists Association said, “We are preparing to hold the 60th ceremony in April next year,” adding, “Although there have been many ups and downs, we aim to prepare an event that brings together film professionals and artists in a meaningful way.”

First launched in 1962, the Daejong Film Awards is the oldest film award ceremony in South Korea.

After the federation that had been running the awards went bankrupt in 2023, the trademark rights were put up for sale. The Korea Film Planning Producers Association initially submitted a bid but failed to pay the remaining balance, leading to another auction.

The 59th ceremony was held in November 2023, but last year and this year’s editions were canceled.
