Netflix-new series

"Parasyte: The Grey" director Yeon Sang-ho will produce a series adaptation of an iconic Japanese film from 1960, the global streaming service said Thursday.

Yeon, known for "Train to Busan" (2016) and "Hellbound" (2021), will co-write and produce the upcoming live-action series "Human Vapor." The show will star Japanese actors Shun Oguri and Yu Aoi, with Japanese director Shinzo Katayama of "Siblings of the Cape (2018) and "Missing" (2021) at the helm.

The original film, "The Human Vapor," was directed by Ishiro Honda creator of "Godzilla" (1954). Netflix described it as "a masterpiece of sci-fi thrillers, renowned for its exploration of power structures and societal oppression."

Set in modern-day Japan, the new series promises a fresh plot and cutting-edge visual effects, aiming to reinvigorate the classic story.

Filming is scheduled to begin later this month, with the series expected to stream on Netflix next year.
