Finecut Reports EFM Sales for CONTORTED and HEAVEN: TO THE LAND OF HAPPINESS

Hong Sangsoo’s 27th feature The Novelist’s Film, which recently won the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival, has been picked up for distribution in several overseas markets.

Finecut, the boutique agency responsible for the film’s international sales, revealed that they had sealed deals for Hong’s film with distributors such as Ama Films (Greece and Cyprus), Atalante Cinema (Spain), Arizona Films Distribution (France), The Cinema Guild (United State) and Mimosa Films (Japan).

Starring Lee Hyeyoung, Kim Minhee and Seo Younghwa, The Novelist’s Film was director Hong’s third film in a row to earn a Silver Bear at the Berlinale, following his Best Director Award for The Woman who Ran in 2020 and Best Screenplay prize for Introduction last year.

Other Finecut titles that were sold during the recent European Film Market (EFM) included the horror film Contorted (2021) and Im Sangsoo’s Heaven: To the Land of Happiness (2021). Contorted, which debuted at last year’s Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), was sold to PT. Prima Cinema Multimedia (Indonesia) and Sahamongkol Films (Thailand). Starring Choi Minshik and Park Haeil, Heaven: To the Land of Happiness was the opening film at BIFF last year and secured presales to Little Monster Films (Australia and New Zealand), Long Shong (Taiwan), Twin (Japan) and Viva Networks (the Philippines).
