Lee Joonik’s Latest Up for Best Film and Best Director at AFAs

Lee Joonik’s critically acclaimed latest film The Book of Fish is among the titles leading the field for the upcoming 15th Asian Film Awards. The period drama received four nominations, including key Best Film and Director nods as well as ones for Best Costume Design and Production Design.

Also scoring four nods this year from Korea was Hong Wonchan’s DELIVER US FROM EVIL (2020), which was recognized for its technical merits, as it was nominated for Best Editing, Cinematography and Music. The action noir also landed in the Best Supporting Actor category, where Park Jungmin was nominated.

Landing three nominations apiece were Hong Euijeong’s black comedy Voice of Silence (2020) and Jo Sunghee’s sci-fi action film Space Sweepers. Hong was nominated for Best New Director and Best Screenplay while her film’s lead Yoo Ahin landed in the Best Actor category. Space Sweepers scored nominations for Best Costume Design, Visual Effects and Sound.

Also representing Korea on the nominations list were Jun Jongseo, nominated for Best Actress in the thriller The Call (2020), Jang Yoonju, who received a nod for Best Supporting Actress in the indie comedy-drama Three Sisters (2020), and Gong Seungyeon, who was featured in the Best Newcomer category for her role in Aloners.

For the second time, this year’s AFAs will take place alongside the Busan International Film Festival, with a hybrid ceremony scheduled to take place on October 8.
