BEAUTY WATER and OK! MADAM Invited to Neuchatel
Korean Films on Show in Swiss Genre Fest
The animation Beauty Water (2020) and the sky-high action-comedy OK! MADAM (2020) have been invited to screen at this year’s Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival (NIFFF) in Switzerland. Both films are part of the ‘New Cinema from Asia’ program at this year’s NIFFF. A pair of Korean shorts, Carnivorous Bean Sprout and Invisible Eyes, will also screen at the 20th anniversary of the Swiss genre film event.
Cho Kyunghun’s animation Beauty Water, which follows a young woman’s horrific journey when she begins to use a highly effective but dangerous beauty product, has been a hit at genre festivals around the world, having screened at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, Fantasia International Film Festival, and Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BiFan). It also earned Best Animated Feature Award at the Boston Sci-Fi Film Festival.
Starring Uhm Junghwa as a small shop operator who goes on a surprise trip to Hawaii with her husband, only for their plane to be hijacked by terrorists, Lee Cheolha’s action-comedy OK! MADAM welcomed over 1.2 million viewers to theaters in Korea last summer.
Films screening in the ‘New Shorts from Asia’ selection are Jung Seunghee’s animated film Invisible Eyes and Carnivorous Bean Sprout, another animated title from director Seo.
This year’s Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival takes place from July 2 to 10.
