CHOI Min-shik and RYU Jun-yeol are set to join forces in the upcoming period drama The Owl (translated title). It is the second collaboration between the actors, following JUNG Ji-woo’s Heart Blackened in 2017.

The film will take place during the Joseon Era and concerns the death of Crown Prince Sohyeon. It will mark the directing debut of AHN Tae-jin, previously an assistant director on LEE Joon-ik’s King and the Clown (2005). CHOI will play King Injo while RYU is on board to play a blind man who works as an acupuncturist.

Known around the world for his role in PARK Chan-wook’s Old Boy (2003), CHOI Min-shik has appeared in acclaimed films such as RYOO Seung-wan’s Crying Fist (2005) and KIM Jee-woon’s I Saw the Devil (2010) and box office smashes like Roaring Currents (2014). He most recently starred in IM Sang-soo’s Heaven: To the Land of Happiness, which was selected for the Cannes Film Festival last year but has yet to screen.

After major supporting turns in films such as The King (2017) and A Taxi Driver (2017), RYU Jun-yeol became one of the country’s biggest stars as the lead of hits Believer (2018), Money (2019) and The Battle: Roar to Victory (2019). He is currently filming CHOI Dong-hoon’s Alien (working title).

Following pre-production and casting, Owl is aiming to enter production in the second half of the year.
