JTBC Becomes Base for New Company from KIM Jee-woon, SONG Kang-ho and CHOI Jae-won

Korean Film Titans Band Together Under New Banner Anthology Studios

Acclaimed filmmaker KIM Jee-woon, top star SONG Kang-ho and veteran producer CHOI Jae-won (aka Jay CHOI) have come together to form a new production company named Anthology Studios. Ahead of their official launch, the outfit was bought by JTBC Studios.

In addition to projects by Director KIM, who will henceforth make all of his films with the company, Anthology Studios will also foster new directorial talents, to be mentored by KIM. Though no projects have been officially confirmed, the company is expecting to produce both a KIM Jee-woon film and a TV series in the near future, while they are also considering projects with American companies.

JTBC Studios acquired Anthology Studios for KRW 20 million (USD 18 million), with the three principals each getting a share of that amount.

Director KIM is known for genre film classics such as A Tale of Two Sisters (2003), A Bittersweet Life (2005) and I Saw the Devil (2010), while SONG is world-famous for works such as PARASITE (2019). The pair have worked together four times in the past, on The Quiet Family (1998), The Foul King (2001), The Good, The Bad, The Weird (2008), and The Age of Shadows (2016).

CHOI first worked with KIM on A Tale of Two Sisters and was involved as producer or investor on several of SONG’s films, such as Memories of Murder (2003) and The Attorney (2013). All three collaborated on The Age of Shadows (2016) when CHOI was head of local production at Warner Bros Korea. The Age of Shadows (2016) producer and Producers’ Guild of Korea (PGK) president CHOI Jeong-hwa has also joined the outfit as head of the production.
