A Bollywood remake of the hit Korean crime drama THE OUTLAWS (2017) is currently gearing up for pre-production. Featuring Indian superstar Salman KHAN in the lead, Radhe is already slated for a May 22 release next year, to coincide with the major Eid holiday in India.
KHAN, one of the biggest stars in India, is known for Dabangg, Ek Tha Tiger and Sultan, among many other major Bollywood titles. Handling the director’s reins will be Prabhu DEVA, who is currently directing KHAN in the blockbuster sequel Dabangg 3.
One of the Bollywood’s leading lights, KHAN will take on the main role, made iconic in the original by now global superstar Don LEE (aka MA Dong-seok), of a gruff inner-city cop who will stop at nothing to take down a violent gang and its evil leader. In the Korean original, the gang was made up of Korean-Chinese emigres, or Joseonjok, and the leader was played by YOON Kye-sang, recently seen in MAL·MO·E: The Secret Mission. Reports suggest that the violence of the original will be toned down for the Indian do-over.
The first film by director KANG Yun-sung, THE OUTLAWS was an unexpected hit, becoming by far the top-performing title of the Chuseok holiday season in 2017 as it attracted 6.88 million viewers (USD 47.05 million).
