Sales Agent Scores Multiple Deals for Youth Drama LITTLE FOREST
Going into this year’s Marché du Film at the Cannes Film Festival, M-Line Distribution announced a slew of sales for their youth drama Little Forest from director YIM Soon-rye (Forever the Moment, 2008). The outfit also added several new titles to its sales slate, including the comedy The Odd Family: Zombie On Sale and the Joseon Era drama Feng Shui.
An adaptation of a Japanese manga of the same name that has previously been adapted into a two-part Japanese film, Little Forest features KIM Tae-ri (The Handmaiden, 2016) as a young woman who escapes city life to return to her country home, where she tries to heal her spirit through locally-sourced cooking and with her friends, played by RYU Jun-yeol (A Taxi Driver, 2017) and JIN Ki-joo.
M-Line Distribution recently sold the film to Tucker Film (Italy), Klockworx (Japan), Shangzhou Media (China), Movie Cloud (Taiwan), The Korea Daily (North America), Edko Films (Hong Kong), Clover Films (Singapore and Malaysia) and Kairos (worldwide in-flight rights, excluding Korea and Taiwan).
The first work of director LEE Min-jae, The Odd Family: Zombie On Sale is the tale of a zombie who is created in a pharmaceutical accident and then meets the PARK family, which, rather than fear him, figure out a way to make money out of him. The cast features JUNG Jae-young (Castaway on the Moon, 2009), KIM Nam-gil (Pandora, 2016) and UHM Ji-won (Hope, 2013).
Coming out on July 5 in Korea will be director LEE Joon-ik’s latest film Sunset in My Hometown. Following his last three period set films, including Anarchist from Colony (2017), LEE’s new work is a present-day story about a struggling rapper, played by PARK Jung-min, the breakout star of LEE’s DONGJU; The Portrait of A Poet (2016), who returns to the countryside when his father becomes ill, and meets a young woman, played by KIM Go-eun (Eungyo, 2012).
M-Line Distribution also has a new horror film in their lineup. Directed by first-timer Sam CHOI, The Whispering features new actress SO Ju-yeon and KIM Min-kyu (Chasing, 2016). After completing their college entrance exam, a group of teenage friends decides to go on a trip. They come across an abandoned haunted house where they decide to stage a fake live broadcast of a haunting. The film will be released domestically on July 12.
