Upcoming period drama Myeong-dang (Korean title) ended four months of principal photography on January 5 in South Gyeongsang Province. The third film of director PARK Hee-kon, the project stars CHO Seung-woo, JI Sung, KIM Sung-kyun and MOON Chae-won.
Myeong-dang is the third and final part of a trilogy of tales set during the Joseon Era, which also includes the 2013 hit The Face Reader and the upcoming drama Marital Harmony (translated title). The film’s Korean title is a word that indicates an auspicious burial site. The story concerns the tensions between different factions that seek to control a grave site that will produce two kings.
Leading the cast is Marathon (2005) star CHO Seung-woo, who was recently seen in the thriller Inside Men (2015) and last year’s hit TV series Stranger. JI Sung last appeared on the big screen in the underseen but acclaimed thriller Confession (2014). KIM Sung-kyun is a busy lead and supporting star whose recent credits include The Prison (2017), The Sheriff in Town (2017) and the upcoming Lunar New Year thriller Golden Slumber, while MOON Chae-won was the lead of romantic titles Love Forecast (2015) and Mood of the Day (2016).
Director PARK previously made the art heist thriller Insadong Scandal (2009) and the sports drama Perfect Game (2011), which also featured CHO in the lead. Myeong-dang is being produced by Jupiter Film and will be distributed by Megabox Plus M.
