11 Films to Screen in Argentina
The Mar Del Plata International Film Festival once again features Korea prominently at this year’s 32nd edition with a special program being devoted to the country’s cinema. In all, 11 Korean films screen at the event, which kicked off on Friday, November 17th and runs until 26th.
KIM Dae-hwan’s second film
The First Lap, which premiered at the
Jeonju International Film Festival as one of this year’s Jeonju Cinema Projects, competes in Mar Del Plata’s ‘International Competition’. The ‘Latin American Competition’ also features a Korean connection, with the participation of Adrián Villar Rojas’ Argentina-South Korea co-production
The Theatre of Disappearance.
Prolific filmmaker
Hong Sangsoo features in this year’s ‘Panorama’ program with two of his three 2017 films,
The Day After and
Claire’s Camera, which both debuted at the Cannes Film Festival.
The bulk of the Korean films feature in the ‘Korea, Guest Country of Honor’ section. These includes
RYOO Seung-wan’s first and most recent films,
Die Bad (2000) and
The Battleship Island,
JANG Hun’s box office hit
A Taxi Driver,
JUNG Byung-gil woman-led action film
The Villainess,
JANG Woo-jin’s indie drama
Autumn, Autumn,
SHIM Chan-yang’s
Behind the Dark Night, which was the Best Korean Film Awardee at the
Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival this year,
LIM Tea-gue's
The Seeds of Violence and
KO Bong-soo's
Loser’s Adventure, both of which competed at Jeonju in May, with the former picking up the Grand Prize in the Korean competition.
