Film Marks First Return to Horror Movies in Six Years Since BEDEVILLED
Actress SEO Young-hee is set to star in the remake of LEE Hyeok-soo’s 1986 period horror film Woman’s Wail. “SEO Young-hee has been confirmed to appear as the heroine of Woman’s Wail.” her agency Huayi Brothers announced. In the original film, a vindictive spirit breaks up a family of three sons, all of whom die a mysterious death on their wedding day. In this version SEO will play Mrs. SHIN while other cast members include SON Seong-yoon as the first daughter-in-law, Apink’s SON Na-eun as the third daughter-in-law and PARK Min-ji as Wal-ah.
Woman’s Wail marks SEO’s return to horror films after a six year absence. The actress was praised for her outstanding performance in JANG Cheol-soo’s thriller Bedevilled (2010) which tells the story of KIM Bok-nam, a woman who takes bloody revenge on villagers after suffering from their disregard and long time abuse. Bedevilled received recognition at various genre film festivals worldwide including the International Critic’s Week of Cannes Film Festival, the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival and TOKYO FILMeX. SEO also swept the best actress awards for her role of Bok-nam at many film fests such as the 14th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BiFan) and the 30th Korean Association of Film Critics Awards (KAFC). Woman’s Wail will start shooting at the end of November for a planned release in the first half of 2018.
